Things to do in Trogir
Although Trogir itself is small and can be explored in just a day, the surrounding area offers a wealth of exciting activities and beautiful scenery in which to fill your vacation.
Historical and Cultural Attractions
Straddled between the mainland and Čiovo Island, Trogir’s Old Town is a charming labyrinth of winding, cobblestoned streets. It is mainly pedestrianized and is best explored on foot to fully immerse yourself into the local and historic charm.
Embark on a private guided tour, where you’ll visit highlights such as the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. Admire Radovan’s Portal, the ornately sculpted entrance, before entering the Chapel of Blessed St John. Climb the cathedral’s bell tower for panoramic views stretching over the Old Town and across to Čiovo Island. Kamerlengo Castle is another must-visit site, which was built by the Venetians in 1420. During the summer months, concerts and events are held within the castle.
The Trogir Cultural Summer festival is a highlight, featuring a diverse array of concerts, theater performances, folklore shows, and art exhibitions.
Beaches and Natural Beauty
Just across the bridge, you’ll find Čiovo Island with a varied landscape of rocky coastlines, pebble beaches, and dense forests. The scenic and tranquil environment here invites you to unwind and relax.
Head to Okrug Gornji Beach (Copacabana Beach) for stretches of sandy beach, where you’ll find beach bars, watersports, and various amenities available. Located on the northeastern tip of the island, Slatine also has numerous picturesque bays. If you are looking for something further off the beaten track, Uvala Mavarstica is a cove surrounded by pine trees in a serene setting.
The island has many seaside paths that wind through and around the island, which are perfect for leisurely walks and bike rides. They offer panoramic views out over the glittering Adriatic Sea.
Activities and Excursions
Due to its central location, Trogir is a fantastic base for vacations. From here, there are many opportunities for day trips to nearby attractions and towns.
Take a boat trip to the nearby Blue Lagoon, where you can spend an afternoon swimming, snorkeling, and exploring the beautiful azure and turquoise waters.
The Island of Šolta, which can be reached by a short boat ride from either Trogir or Split, has a wealth of sights and activities on offer. The island is filled with lush Mediterranean vegetation, idyllic beaches, and delicious produce. Make sure to sample the local olive oil, honey, and Dobricic red wine.
Trogir is also near the rest of Croatia’s southern islands, allowing you to experience the rest of the magical Dalmatian Coast.
Culinary Delights
Like many other areas along the Dalmatian Coast, Trogir’s gastronomy scene is centered around seafood and fresh local ingredients. Trogir vacations are the perfect time to experience a Croatia food tour. Enjoy the best of the region’s cuisine and produce by taking a cooking class hosted by local chefs or by indulging in the food scene at local konobas or fine-dining restaurants.
