Rovinj’s Old Town

Rovinj’s old town is a charming labyrinth of winding alleyways and side streets, with cafes, boutiques, and art galleries tucked into its walls. It dates back to Roman times, and has been influenced by various cultures over the centuries, including Venetian, Austro-Hungarian, and Italian, which is evident in the unique architecture and layout of the area. 

Embark on a walking tour to learn more about the fascinating historic sites in Rovinj’s old town. The tour will include key attractions such as the town clock, Balbi’s Arch, and St. Euphemia’s Church, the largest baroque church in Istria, which has spectacular views over the peninsula from its tower.

Baluota (Monte) Beach is a stone beach located in the town’s center. Sunbathe on the flat rocks or use the ladders to go for a dip in the water. Golden Cape Forest Park (also known as Punta Corrente) has an abundance of lovely beaches, namely Golden Cape beach and Lone beach, which have an array of amenities available for visitors, such as restrooms, sun loungers, and cafes.

Outdoor Activities in Rovinj

Rovinj has a wealth of outdoor activities and excursions to offer visitors, concentrated in Golden Cape Forest Park. This lush protected area is filled with pine, cypress, and oak trees. The many well-marked  trails here are perfect for hiking and walking, and are suitable for all levels. Collect a map at the park’s entrances and enjoy your journey through the diverse flora and fauna, with stunning coastal views. 

Golden Cape is also well-known for its rock climbing, which is located 21 yards from the sea in a former quarry. The routes vary from easy to hard and are suitable for all climbing levels. 

Watersports are popular in Rovinj during the summer months. Try your hand at kayaking, paddleboarding, or windsurfing along the coast. Scuba diving is also popular, where you can discover the underwater caves and shipwrecks in the area. The turquoise Adriatic sea is clear and provides an incredible environment to explore marine life and vibrant coral gardens.

How to Get to Rovinj?

The closest airport to Rovinj is Pula (PUY), which is located 25 miles from Rovinj. The easiest way to reach Rovinj from the airport is by private transfer, however taxis and buses are also available. 

Rovinj is also well connected by road and can be reached from Zagreb in 3 hours, from Trieste, Italy in 1.5 hours, or from Ljubljana, Slovenia in around 2 hours.
