WHY TRAVELING IN 2021 WILL BE… EPIC!
With the world’s first COVID vaccine being administered in the UK and the US making arrangements for regulation and distribution, there are high hopes that we can soon emerge from this COVID nightmare.
After a year of lockdown, stress, economic hardship and widespread uncertainty, 2020 has been a year like no other. But one thing has remained constant – our desire for travel. Data company STR found that even during lockdown the actual desire to travel remains strong in people that live in key territories such as the US, UK and Australia.
And now, as the world slowly comes out of lockdowns, there’s a real sense that travelers want to reignite their sense of adventure, and to be consumed by wanderlust again.
Travel writer Scott Haas says: “Stress … is defined classically as, ‘no way out’. We were afraid that the trap was permanent. That’s how our mind works”.
We’re rapidly approaching the point where that stress trap has now been sprung, and life can begin to get back to normal again in the early parts of 2021.
And that means traveling again.
During lockdowns, many took time out to think about their lives, pondered what mattered most to them and what they want to achieve in life. With things opening back up again, there’s a feeling that seasoned travelers as well as those that may previously have been travel averse, want to see more of the world, expand their horizons and desperately make up for lost time.
Make no mistake – the world will be your oyster once again, and now is the perfect time for planning, unleashing your sense of adventure and securing that dream trip for you and your loved ones in 2021.
2021 – Will It Be The Year Of Travel?
One blogger described getting back out into the world in 2021 to be like “your first night out after a bad breakup”. That means the return of bucket lists, the thirst for new, never-to-be-forgotten experiences and the desire for adventure and break free of the day to day stresses that have flared up during a difficult 2020.
The figures back this up.
A survey by GetYourGuide found that US travelers plan to take more leisure trips in 2021 than they did in 2019 or 2020, while another survey by AirportParkingReservations.com concluded that 39% of travelers feel “very confident” about travel next year, while 44% say they’re ‘somewhat’ confident about traveling. Only 3% said they were not confident about travel.
And there’s more.
Skyscanner.com has seen a 368% jump in searches for international destinations for travel as early as January 2021. Its data suggests this growing consumer confidence will continue.
Add to this renewed interest in travel, all of the vacations that were either postponed or cancelled from 2020, and 2021 looks set to be a bumper year!
People are desperate to see new sights and sounds after being confined to their neighborhoods, experience new cultures, taste new cuisine, feel the sun on their backs again and relish the challenge of deciphering a menu in a foreign language!
Josh Alexander of luxury travel advisor Protravel International said that his clients are making plans to spend more money on longer trips abroad.
“As soon as more international borders open up and the domestic quarantines ease, clients will be traveling all over the world, traveling longer and spending more,” he said.
How will things change next year for the traveler?
After a year of safety restrictions, increased sanitization at airports and masks, how will traveling change in 2021?
Our very own CEO Pamela Robinson , thinks that travellers will be looking for more bespoke experiences, away from the crowds with safety, flexibility and considered tours being the watchwords.
“With the inevitable influx of traveling set to come into action from as early as January, we anticipate a higher demand for luxury, private accommodation options, away from the popular ‘tourist’ hotspots. This is great news for the local economies, who will see a wider variety of travelers diversify their accommodation experience of a city, and ultimately enjoy a richer travel experience”
In addition to Pamela’s thoughts, Marco Corradino, CEO of Lastminute.com, added: “People will still go on holiday – they’ll just travel smarter.” Judging by these industry experts, travel will look and feel the same, but be more considered in 2021 than it has been previously. So whilst the experience will be the same, there may be slightly more planning and trip curation involved.
