Two New Michelin Star Restaurants in Croatia

We are delighted to announce that Croatia now has 7 restaurants with a Michelin star after two were recently awarded the prestigious accolade at the end of February 2020. LD Terrace in Korčula, run by Chef Marko Gajski, and The Restaurant of Hotel Boškinac in Novalja on the island of Pag, both met the standards of the notoriously stringent criteria and became the sixth and seventh restaurants to be awarded the honor of a Michelin star in Croatia.

Both LD Terrace and The Restaurant of Hotel Boškinac can be visited on many of our tours. So you are familiar with the two new Michelin star restaurants in Croatia, we have compiled some information about the location, ethos and menu of each.

LD Terrace

Part of the historic Lešić Dimitri Palace, LD Terrace is situated in the heart of Korčula Town on the island of Korčula, just off the Dalmatian coast. Famed for its ancient Roman ruins, enchanting woodlands, lush vineyards and sleepy fishing villages, the island of Korčula is one of Croatia’s most beautiful destinations. The birthplace of Marco Polo, Korčula Town sits on the island’s jagged eastern coastline and is awash with gorgeous medieval buildings.

Spread along a section of the Old Town medieval wall, the LD Terrace restaurant provides diners with breathtaking, panoramic views across the Pelješac channel and the Korčula archipelago.

Taking inspiration from the Adriatic coast’s beautiful gardens, above and below sea level, LD Terrace have created a unique but local dining experience for guests. Through their ingredient-focused menu, influenced by what is available seasonally in the region on land and at sea, they have developed a gastronomic identity that is rooted in the rich Dalmatian cuisine.

One of the most talented of a new generation of young Croatian chefs, Head Chef Marko Gajski celebrates the traditional food of the sea, navigating the seasons with bold flavours. In his own words the LD Terrace menu aims to “Represent our experience here in Korčula, our unique history and maritime culture in our guest’s dining experience”

For those who desire a truly unforgettable evening, LD Terrace offers a multiple course food experience. Personally served by the Head Chef and Sommeliers, guests are guided through a seven course menu paired with eight wines and local olive oils. The restaurant also offers an intimate space for up to 10 guests to sample the latest menu ideas, paired with recommended olive oils and local wines.

The Restaurant of Hotel Boškinac

The Restaurant of Hotel Boškinac is situated close to the city of Novalja on the large island of Pag. Known for its largely barren, ‘moon-like’, landscapes, the juxtaposition of the steely blue Adriatic crashing against its sepia-colored shores makes it visually one of the most dramatic locations in the whole of Croatia. Part of a charming, upmarket boutique hotel, the stunning stone building that houses the restaurant is an oasis of peace surrounded by charming woodland next to a vineyard and an olive grove.

The Boškinac restaurant prides itself on “Interpreting traditional island cuisine in a creative and modern way”. Whilst soaking in stunning views that awaken the feeling of being connected to nature, guests can enjoy custom dishes and imaginative tasting menus that also respect the gastronomic heritage of the region. The menu, which aims to depict the wealth of the ingredients of the Pag region, offers a rich selection of fish, lamb, cheese, prosciutto and other fresh seasonal foods, along with olive oil, herbs and honey, all presented in a special artistic way.

“The simplicity that respects the perfection of the ingredients themselves, and the reinterpretation of tradition, though controlled in its creativity and playfulness, is the main philosophy of our restaurant,”

Boris Šuljić – Restaurant owner

To complement such an approach to cuisine, diners are offered the best wines of the Boškinac cellar alongside a large number of the most interesting Croatian wines.

The island of Pag is renowned for its creative cuisine, even attracting tourists to sample its delights even in the middle of winter. The restaurant of Hotel Boškinac is the embodiment of this tradition, providing guests with unrepeatable experiences and memories.
