Tell us a little about yourself…
“I currently live in Northern California in the Foothills of the Sierra Mountains, but I have called Sacramento, Tokyo, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Los Angeles my home throughout my life. I love to get immersed in the culture of the location I’m staying, which I think is why I moved around a lot, and why I love specializing in Croatia and sharing what I’ve learned with my clients and our customers.
In my spare time, I’m a baker so I love to learn about the local foods and culinary influences of the locations I’ve been to. Food always seems to make people happy, and learning about the foods of Croatia has been an exciting foray into truffles, cheese, herbs, meats, desserts, and traditional preparations that are new to me.
When I travel, I particularly love to find chocolates, spices, syrups or flavorings, and olive oils to bring home to experiment with. And of course, the Croatian salt! Food experiences, no matter where you go, create great sense memories, and I enjoy sharing what I’ve discovered with others.”
How long have you worked for Adventures Croatia?
“My sister Pamela Robinson started the business on her own in 2012 while I was still working for a regional ballet company in Sacramento, and she asked me to join forces with her back in 2013. I still can’t believe it’s been 10 years!
When we started, half the job was trying to explain how incredible Croatia is and also where it was! Now, it’s a little bit easier because more people have visited and the word is out about how amazing Croatia really is! It’s now such an in-demand travel location that everyone has on their bucket list.”
What is your favorite part of the job?
“Working with my clients. It’s truly the best part of my job, coming up with an itinerary they are absolutely excited about, and their joy and fond memories created after they’ve traveled. It’s a great feeling to help others experience the best of Croatia, and since I know my team will take great care of them while they travel, I am always confident they will come home happy.
It’s rewarding to make people happy!”
What inspired you to work in the travel industry?
“Well…that’s a funny thing. I, by my nature, am out of my comfort zone when I travel far from home. I never considered working in the travel business because of this. In contrast, my sister Pamela is such a world traveler, and traveling energizes her, and those are the people I work with.
Since I know my sister and what she looks for in an itinerary, I always had that in mind when working with a well-traveled client. I think that’s why I’m more attuned to making sure travel plans are well thought out: that my clients have a point of contact in the country, and they will be in hotels I have either stayed in or my team has inspected, so I know exactly what they’ll experience.
I don’t want them to feel out of their comfort zone. If I had had someone like me planning a trip for myself, I would have traveled more than I have. I’ve only been to 9 countries, which is more than some, but less than other world travelers!”
What is your favorite thing about Croatia?
“The people. Hands down. They are some of the hardest working, kind, generous to a fault, and smartest people I’ve ever met. No matter their job, no matter where they live, the Croatians are truly nice people.”
If you could pick one thing to plan an entire vacation around, what would it be?
“I would plan an entire vacation on and around Korčula. It has a tiny bit of everything: food, my favorite bakery in Croatia, shops, walking, biking, wine tasting, picturesque beaches where you can go snorkeling and scuba diving, great weather and cool history!
The island is also well-located and not as touristy as Hvar, with a ferry system that can easily take you to other fabulous locations and islands around Croatia.”
What makes Croatia different from anywhere else you’ve visited?
“It’s a combination of all the things: culture, food, locations, history, excursions, the friendliness of the people, did I mention the food? It’s everything you could ask for, and the ‘nice’ factor is rare to find!”
