Croatia is Romance!
Long before Cupid was known as a cute little love cherub, Cupid was known by the Greeks as “Eros – the god of Love”.
Eros stuck both the hearts of the gods and mere mortals and loved to play with their emotions. This mythological and playful being is the perfect link to our love of Croatia, its people and the connection to Greek mythology found throughout Croatia and the Balkans.
Thanks to trade routes and communications, the ancient peoples of the Bronze and Iron Ages living in the land which is present-day Croatia were in touch with the artistic output of the Greek and Etruscans from as early as the 8th century BC. An abundance of Greek statuary has been found throughout the region – one of our favorites this month being the bronze Eros from the 2nd Century located in the Museum of Slavonia in Osijek.
Love abounds in Croatia, from the love of wine and fresh food, the love of music, the love of the sea and the islands, the Croatians love of their wildly fantastic history and the many cultures who have made this region their home over the centuries. Love is watching the sunset while listening to the sea playing the sea organ on the waterfront in Zadar. It’s stealing a kiss on the walls of Dubrovnik listening to the waves lap at the fortifications below. Love is the serenity of your own quiet spot among the waterfalls and streams of Plitvice National Park. Love is walking the streets of Zagreb or Split or Trogir, hand in hand while discovering their many romantic cafes. Love is spending warm days and cool nights in secluded turquoise island coves on your own private chartered boat.
