Some people choose to explore the wineries and vineyards from which this ambrosia originates. It matters not whether you are a true sommelieror someone who just appreciates a good wine. Croatia holds wines that are both accessible and sophisticated.

The Wineries

The secret to why the wines of the Mediterranean are so great is that the climate here is particularly well suited for grape production. The summers are mild,long and dry and the winters are short and wet. Thus, Croatia has two well-known wine regions – the Coastal Region and the Continental (Inland)Region. Here is a short guide to some of the best wineries in Croatia.

• Korta Katarina Winery, Peljesac: Just one hour north of Dubrovnik,the area around this winery has a long tradition of wine-making.
• Boskinac Winery, Pag Island: Known for hosting entertainment spectacular such as music festivals, Pag’s winery is located in a quiet valley surrounded by pine trees, olive groves and of course vineyards. 
• Duboković Winery, Hvar Island: This winery is family owned and has been based on the island of Hvar for centuries. Its wines cover a variety of styles from sparking whites to masculine reds and everything in between.

The Wines

It’s a pity that more people have not heard of Croatian wine. Those who have know that we have some fine vintages here. Here are 3 Croatian wines we can recommend.

• Plavac Mali: This red wine is rich, full of flavor and low in acidity. It has notes of blackberry, dark cherry, pepper,carob, dry figs, and spice. The name itself translates to “small blue”.
• Malvazija Istarska: This white wine is among one of the most famous wines of the northern Dalmatian coast. It too has low alcohol content and has the lovely aromas of fennel, quince, honey, apricot, and spice mixed in its bouquet.
• Graševina: This wine, which is among the most popular wines in all of Croatia, is dry, fresh, aromatic and has apple-like notes.
