Croatia on Popular TV Travel Shows

Croatia is a country that has to be seen to be believed. A relatively untapped treasure trove of European culture and untamed beauty, it offers something for every kind of traveler. This beauty has grown in popularity over recent years, with Croatia featuring on a number of famous travel shows.

Exploring everything from the characterful quirks of Croatia’s cities to the vibrant flavors of the nation’s food scene, these shows help give a taste of what Croatia brings to the table. Plus, they often let you see a side of the country that you were previously unaware of.

So, if you are looking to travel Croatia from the comfort of your couch, or use television as a means of inspiring your next vacation, here is a selection of Croatia travel show appearances to get you under the spell of the travel bug yet again.

Somebody Feed Phil – S6 E2

Hosted by the ever-charismatic Phil Rosenthal, this show sees the host travel the globe in search of the very best flavors that a country has to offer. All while soaking in a little culture along the way.

In this episode, Phil embarks on a foodie journey across Croatia. The trip leads him from sweet bakery treats to Bosnian culinary delights to some of the finest seafood that the planet has to offer. Not content with simply gorging during his travels, viewers see Phil diving for sea urchins, explore the hills of Korcula and wander the narrow streets surrounding the Diocletian’s Palace.

Keep your eyes peeled for the octopus burger from Dubrovnik – a Croatian treat that is sure to make any viewer’s mouth water.

You can actually find all the places that Phil visits during his travels here, helping you visit them yourself during your own trip to Croatia.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations – S8 E3

Another food-centric Croatia travel show, this episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations saw the much loved and sorely missed TV chef and critic take a trip across Croatia in an effort to broaden his palate.

Bourdain starts the episode with no knowledge of Croatia or its cuisine, making him the perfect guide for those that have never traveled to the country before. He goes on to hunt for white truffles in the Istrian Peninsula and swims with tuna in the sea near Zadar before embarking on a taste-bud guided island hopping tour of the southern islands.

Expect fine dining and local delights as the host samples the very best flavors that the Balkan nation has to offer. And see what made Bourdain dub Croatia “The next great thing”. He certainly wasn’t wrong.

Below Deck: Mediterranean – S2 & S6

A reality TV show unlike any other, Below Deck: Mediterranean follows the lives of crew members on board a 150-foot-plus superyacht as it explores the shores of some of Europe’s most stunning sun-washed coastal locations.

Seasons two and six take place along the Croatian coast and give viewers an idea of the unrivaled natural beauty that the country’s Adriatic coastline has to offer. Expect sapphire seawater, golden Mediterranean sunshine and the very best in luxury travel.

The show – while often dramatic – gives viewers an accurate impression of what it takes to operate a yacht during charter season. If you are looking to charter a yacht in Croatia this summer, get in touch with our travel specialists today.

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted – S3 E4

Hosted by the world-famous British chef, this show takes viewers on a global journey of genuine adventure, unforgettable experiences and discovering flavors that cannot be found elsewhere on the planet.

In this episode, Ramsay explores the coastal region of Croatia, from the hills of Istria to the deep blues of the Adriatic Sea. Join him as he fishes for conger eels, describes why he believes that Croatian truffles actually surpass the quality of their Italian and Spanish counterparts, and bizarrely ends up milking a donkey…

The episode also sees Ramsay cooking up a storm in some of the most picturesque settings imaginable. Definitely not one to be missed.

Travel Man – S9 E1 & S10 E3

This quirky British travel show intends to outline both conventionally enchanting and genuinely bizarre features of earth’s greatest cities within a short 48 hour travel window.

The show’s original eccentric host – actor, director and writer Richard Ayoade – is joined by British comedian and actor Stephen Merchant as they explore the more popular and obscure features of Croatia’s most popular city, Dubrovnik.

The duo embark on a Game of Thrones tour, race around dirt tracks on a buggy and take a ferry to one of Croatia’s most haunted islands…

The show returned to Croatia in season ten with new host Joe Lycett taking the helm as he and guest Aisling Bea discovered the wonders of Split. Expect cooking at sunset, a showcase in amateur paddle boarding and a giggle-filled trip to Froggyland – Split’s most unique museum.
