Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina Discovery – Ljubljana to Dubrovnik – 12 Days
Seeing Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina for the first time is a life-changing experience. To visit time and again is to re-affirm life. Blessed with magnificent scenery and fascinating history, the region is further enriched with folk traditions and delicious provincial foods and wines. Places so divine they have been named among the best travel destinations in the world. Mediterranean, European, and Balkan influences have formed ancient and distinctive cultures throughout the pastoral countrysides and along shimmering coastlines. Powerful mountain ranges have carved legacies in their midst while fairy tale castles and walled seaside villages stand as testimony to the tumultuous past. Once the site of one of the bloodiest crossroads between Europe and Asia, these countries gained international recognition and independence in the early 1990s and today are gorgeous and peaceful lands that beckon passionate travelers from all over the world. From its lush national parks teeming with flora, fauna and stunning waterfalls to its glistening chain of lavender and citrus scented islands in the sun-drenched Adriatic Sea, this is truly one of the most beautiful spots on Earth. A journey to the westernmost Balkans is a lovely and indelible memory that lives with you forever.

Your sightseeing tour of Bled features this charming lakeshore town and the imposing Bled castle perched high on the cliff above the lake. Visit its famous island and the sacred site of the small church—getting there is its own unique experience, you’ll arrive via Lake Bled’s traditional hand-propelled pletna (boat). Then a visit to the famous Bled Castle for a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. Then you cross the border into Croatia and continue to Rovinj. Upon arrival, check in to a beautiful boutique hotel 4*. Romantic Rovnij was once an island before it was joined to the mainland by its Venetian rulers in the 1700s. Its beautiful Baroque piazza was the town’s center of village life, located at the waterfront of Rovnij’s historic harbor, in the meticulously restored 16th century Venetian “Palace of the Poor”. In the afternoon meet your guide for a private walking tour of Rovinj.
Rovinj – Groznjan – Motovun –Rovinj
Istria inland is waiting for you! Embark on a private day trip with our special guide who will give you an unforgettable insight into the Istrian peninsula, a region featuring typical medieval towns, “stone crowns” of the charming hillocks. First, you will visit the town of Groznjan – the town of the artists, and then head to Motovun along a zigzag road. It is easy to imagine these lanes influenced a love for hugging the curves by a Motovun native son, racing driver Mario Andretti. The picturesque settlement perched on the very top of the hill is protected by a strong defensive wall. The town dominates above the river Mirna and Motovun Forest; where the biggest habitat of the famous Istrian truffle thrives. You will then be treated to an original, authentic experience: a truffle hunt followed by a tasting of truffle products – a gem of Croatian gastronomy, before returning to Rovinj in the afternoon.
Rovinj – Zadar
Your Croatian experience continues with a private morning transfer toward Zadar. Upon arrival, check in to your 4* hotel, located in the very heart of ancient Zadar, on the main promenade. Featuring a restaurant and free Wi-Fi, it offers air-conditioned rooms with modern furnishings, Plasma TV and stonewalls. The Pre-Romanesque St. Donatus Church, as well as the Roman Forum, is only a short walk away. The monumental Land Gate can be reached within 3 minutes on foot. The historic centre is full of picturesque cafés and restaurants serving local specialties and international dishes. Grocery and souvenir shops can also be found at every corner. Kolovare Beach with beach volleyball courts and a playground is a 20-minute walk away.
Enjoy an afternoon private walking tour of Zadar with your guide. The ancient peninsula still preserves the old network of narrow and charming city streets, as well as a Roman forum dating back to the first century AD. The pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donat dates back to the ninth century and is Zadar’s most famous spot. The town is fortified with medieval walls, distinguished for their pretty and impressive portals dating back to the sixteenth century. The modern installations the “Sea organ” and the “Salute to the sun” only add to the charm of Zadar. Here you do not want to miss one of the most beatiful sunsets in the world!
Zadar – Krka Waterfalls National Park – Split
Check out after breakfast and meet your chauffeur for a private transfer to Split. Morning departure to picturesque Skradin and the Krka Waterfalls. On its green path, River Krka has seven falls, the last one being the amazing Skradinski Buk. Thanks to the constant process of travertine building, the Krka River is a karst phenomenon, carving a spectacular canyon on its 70 kilometers journey from the foothills of the Dinara mountains to the amazing estuary under the walls of historic Šibenik. Walk the winding wooden paths through the main park area and visit the etno museum and shops housed in the old mills at Skradinski Buk. Getting off the boat in Skradin you will enjoy an exclusive wine paired dining experience, which includes masterfully matched dishes and local wines like debit, plavina, and babich served by the winemaker Alan Bibich. The cuisine is never the same because it depends on the inspiration of Alan’s wife – arguably one of the best chefs in the country!
Continue south and reach Split in the early afternoon. Upon arrival, check in to your Hotel 4*, located in an ancient palace on the main town square of Split, next to Diocletian’s Palace. This charming hotel, perfect for lovers of culture, is an extensive four-story building on the elevations of which the fundamental historical and cultural periods of Medieval and modern Europe can be observed: Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance. This spacious, former patrician home is accessed through the internal courtyard that contains a historic well. From your hotel balcony, you can enjoy panoramic views over the square and Split’s bustling city center. Join our guide for a private evening walking tour of Diocletian’s Palace.
Split – Hvar
Board the morning ferry to the island of Hvar. You will be assisted with tickets and luggage. After a late lunch, transfer to Hvar town and check in to your 4+* Hotel, in the very heart of Hvar town. Hvar – Korčula
Morning at leisure. Public ferry transfer assistance to the island of Korčula in the afternoon hours. The Old Town of Korčula still has its city walls and although the moat around the town is now dry, you still have to enter the town over a drawbridge. While Korčula town is very compact, the art and architecture, Korčulan culture, traditional crafts and unsurpassed skills in stone masonry and shipbuilding are almost as legendary as its most famous son, Marco Polo. Even today, but only at very special events, the Moreska sword dancers (real swords, real blood when you make a mistake!) still practice their centuries-old tradition. Upon arrival, you will be assisted with luggage to your hotel. Check into your 4* Hotel, a charming family owned hotel situated in a traffic free zone and in the immediate vicinity of a beautiful beach. Luxurious rooms fully furnished with natural materials and overlooking the sea are a synonym for comfortable accommodation. The kind and discrete staff are there to meet you in front of the boat and help you settle in.
Korčula – Ston – Dubrovnik
Meet your chauffeur after breakfast for a private transfer to Dubrovnik through countryside studded with vineyards and glimpses of the cerulean blue sea via the Peljesac Peninsula. En route, you will stop in the town of Ston, famous for its magnificent city walls fortification complex dating back to the 14th century, quite unique in its length of 3.5 miles, and of course its coveted oyster beds. Your host will meet you at the small bay just a few kilometers from the Ston center and show you how his family has been harvesting fresh oysters for generations before taking you by boat for a fresh oyster tasting and light seafood lunch (mussels) served on your host’s private part of an island in the middle of Mali Ston bay – a truly one-of-a-kind experience!
Arrive in Dubrovnik early afternoon. Check into your fabulous 5* boutique hotel situated in the Bay of Lapad, one of the most beautiful locations in the Dubrovnik area. With views of green pines, Mediterranean vegetation, the glaring azure sea, rocky cliffs and memorable sunsets, this Hotel will astonish any traveler. All rooms and suites are equipped with the latest technology that will, along with the superb staff service, make your stay an unforgettable experience.
Meet your guide in the afternoon for a private guided walking tour of Dubrovnik Old town. Dubrovnik truly is a stunning city with its amazing Old Town, which became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. Beyond the city is a heavenly landscape of beaches, wooded peninsulas and a sea strewn with lush islands. George Bernard Shaw was enchanted by this beautiful city, about which he said “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and see Dubrovnik”, as well as, famously, describing it as “the pearl of the Adriatic”. A magnificent curtain of walls surrounds marble streets and baroque buildings that exude a pearly light in the Adriatic sun. The main pedestrian thoroughfare, Placa, is a mélange of cafés and shops with outstanding monuments at either end. Churches, monasteries, and museums ornamented with finely carved stone recall an eventful history and a vibrant artistic tradition.
Dubrovnik – Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina – Dubrovnik
From the coast of Dubrovnik, we climb deep to the heart of the Balkans along the Neretva River, famed for its unusually beautiful emerald waters, and make our way to the picturesque town of Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The slim, elegant Stari Most (Old Bridge), arches over the swirling Neretva River and provides this ancient town with its icon and name: Mostar meaning ‘keeper of the bridge’. Flanking the bridge is the old cobbled Ottoman Quarter, a haven for the city’s artists and craftsmen, along with 16th-century mosques, old Turkish houses, and endless cafés. The bridge, which long united the two sections of the city built along both sides of the Neretva Gorge, became a casualty of the war in 1993. To international acclaim, the symbolically and literally critical bridge was carefully rebuilt and reopened to reunite hearts and Mostar in 2004. After the tour, we’ll have time to enjoy some serious Mostar coffee and delicious traditional cakes and learn more about daily life in Bosnia and Herzegovina before returning to Dubrovnik.
